    How To Be Put Together

Do you often wish that you were one of those women who always showed up looking put together and feeling it as well? It really only takes a few small daily changes and knowing some great tricks to be that woman. Episode #47 of Friday Live with Sierra goes into detail about this but to see the 10 ways to look pulled together and the 10 ways to feel pulled together in a quick list, keep reading. On a personal note, the above photo is me, before the interview that resulted in my having my own live tv show. It took only about 20 minutes to get ready, but I…

    When I grow up

We all had fantasies about what we wanted to be when we grew up and most of us entertained ourselves for hours on end pretending those fantasies were true.  I alternated between being a CEO (off what? I don’t think I realized there was a what) and being a designer.  A few years ago, I was reconnected with a childhood friend on the phone and she asked what I did.  I told her I was a designer and she paused, giggled and asked if by any chance I designed under the name S & S designs. We had spent more hours then I can count creating this fictional life for…

Sum it up…starting the year off with a bang!

WORKING ON:  The Spring/Summer 2013 Line was finished and photographed this week! Focusing on getting it ready to release and prepare for the pooltradeshow. THINKING ABOUT: What trade show to apply for next…any suggestions for March? ANTICIPATING:  Going to NH on Tuesday to visit my dad and all my family there! LISTENING TO: Not much at home, but Steve and I had an 80’s afternoon at his studio during the photo shoot on Wednesday, it was pretty amazing. EATING: I bought cookies.  I know, but I just can’t help it, they’re so soft, and deliciously frosted!! THANKFUL FOR: All of the amazing opportunities in 2013 already for Manic Trout!…

    What’s your support system?

I have at different times in the life of Manic Trout, hired all sorts of people to help grow the business grow.  From holiday help to assistants to interns to publicists, I have delegated on many levels.  When I still was in the day job phase, a great deal of help was necessary as my own time to give was limited, although the last “day” job I had only took up one and half week days, it still took me out of the studio an average of 40 hours a week.  So you it was necessary to have help.  When I moved to Texas I obviously was not physically near…

    House progress…

I’ve been running a mad dash for the past week trying to get the house pulled together before the chaos of the holidays, and I think it’s going pretty well so far.  As there are only 5 weeks (5 weeks!!) of ship time left for the season at Manic Trout and a show every weekend until Christmas, it’s time to chain myself to my studio.  So not to leave you out of the loop, below are some pics from the house as it is now.  Adam bought us both olloclips and the fish eye is perfect for capturing an entire room, so I have been snapping the progress on my phone.…

    Sum it up

WORKING ON:  Not enough of anything.  Trying to get it all done. Failing.  Yesterday managed to buy a new bed frame, mattress, kitchen table, couch pillows and the awesome guy above.  It felt amazing to tick so much off my list at once. THINKING ABOUT: The holidays, the spring line, packing, decorating the new house and so many tasks that are involved with it all. ANTICIPATING: Moving into the new house (renting) in 12 days…woo hoo!! LISTENING TO: Wild Belle.  Saw them at ACL last week and fell in love. EATING: Have fallen off the candy wagon…hard.  Trying to get back on, but sugar is a bitch of a mistress.…

    A whirl wind week

Just to catch you up…Adam and I eloped last Thursday! There are photo’s coming, so I’ll save the story until then, but it’s official, we’re hitched!  We woke up Friday morning and after sending off the sneak peeq orders, we headed over to ACL where we enjoyed amazing performances by Weezer, Wild Belle, Florence and The Machine and one of my all time fav bands, The Black Keys.  Saturday I was at the market on South Congress where I got caught in the rain and as a result, Sunday I was taken down by a cold.  Monday I set up again at the market for a rain day and still…

    A place to call home

I think we found a house to rent.  Pretty excited about it, and crossing my fingers that we get it!  It’s not perfect, but its only a rental and if we were looking to buy, we would snatch in a second as the issues we have with it are that the kitchen needs updating and there’s (new) carpeting in much of it.  However, it’s in a lovely neighborhood, there is an amazing fenced in back yard for Faye, a garage, a laundry room and a new addition of a master suite which is breathtaking.  There also is bamboo growing in the back yard, which two days prior to seeing it,…

    Collecting collections

Amazing how few of the hours of your day are spent designing when you’re a designer.  There are many hours logged online…too many I’m sure that are unnecessary as I get caught up in social media.  Then there is the requisite business aspects such as spreadsheets and bookkeeping, researching and sourcing new materials and all that good stuff.  Don’t forget photographing products, planning and co-ordinating photo shoots, editing and creating look books and line sheets.  Oh and then the actual production of the jewelry once it’s been designed.  It’s amazing I ever have time to design new pieces!  Even more amazing though is how I not only do I find…
