International Women’s Day 2018
International Women’s Day is once again upon us. As a day first observed in 1910, it has long been steeped in the important issues which women face. And sadly today, although there have been many improvements made over time thanks largely to the industrial revolution, life still sucks for a great many women. Let us all take a moment to think about the biggest conversation that is not being had. Sex trafficking. Texas is #2 in the US. #1 is California. You can easily view a few colorful and disturbing facts in this photo thanks to a study being done at UT. This info graphic is from January 2017, and the numbers have only become worse since then. You want to hear a delightful fact? SXSW, ACL and Formula One bring a flooding of sex trafficking to Austin. Right up there with what the SuperBowl generates. SXSW begins this week. Let’s think about what this means for a moment, and keep those little girls close. Because that is the reality of who is being trafficked.
If you or someone you know is a victim of human trafficking, you can call the National Human Trafficking Hotline at 1-888-373-7888.
