As you know, I am an avid reader and collector of books. I have won awards for my book collections, have a room lined with them and have been know to read a stack in two days time. I love books. I refuse to read books electronically because love how they smell, feel and look. I have cuddled up in bed for at least 20 minutes every night of my life with a book, its necessary for my sanity. I told a librarian the other day that these days I tend to alternate between classics and fluff…just to keep a balance. She thought I was actually onto something…its kind of like Interval training with exercise. You slowly pour over a great piece of literary art and then fly through some sort of “new city/new man/new job” fun book (you can identify they as they often have hot pink on their covers) and then dig into another masterpiece.
I just finished The Bone People by Keri Hulme. It was a fantastic book, but heavy. When I finished it I started Why Girls Are Weird by Pamela Ribon, don’t get me wrong…this is a great book and I have laughed so hard while reading it that tears streamed down my cheeks and Faye looked at me weird. I have however read most of it in two days.
Hmmm, what’s up next is the question. I’m thinking Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace, but the size of the thing makes me not want to deal with holding it up to read it. Seriously…they should put a weight warning on it…I would be terrified for my back if I had to carry it around with me. Size aside, I have had it since it came out in paper back about four years ago and it can stay on the shelf for awhile longer if something better comes along…any suggestions?
